3 Types of Cyber-Attacks That Should Never Be Ignored

The online world is an ever-changing landscape, and as it changes, so do the skills of cyber criminals. Sometimes the damages are minimal, and other times they can be in the millions. You can report malicious activities online at FraudTrac, but what are the attacks, especially the cyber-attacks, that you should report immediately? There are many types of dangerous cyber-attacks that you shouldn’t ignore under any circumstances. Let’s take a look!

Denial-of-Service (DOS)

A Denial-of-Service (DoS) attack is a type of cyber attack that aims to make a computer resource or network unavailable to its intended users by overwhelming it with a flood of traffic or requests.

The goal of a DoS attack is to disrupt the normal functioning of a network or website, making it unavailable to legitimate users. This is one of the biggest types of dangerous cyber-attacks because it can have serious consequences for businesses, organizations, etc., that rely on the availability of their online services. For instance, a DDoS attack on Wikipedia in 2019 shut the site down in Europe, the Middle East, and America for nine hours.

Phishing Cyber-Attack

A phishing attack uses social engineering to trick individuals into providing sensitive information or access to sensitive systems. A cybercriminal will send an email or a message that appears to come from a legitimate source, such as a financial institution or a company. They will ask the recipient to provide personal information or login credentials. These attacks can also happen via phone calls, social media messages, and instant messaging.

Man in the Middle (MITM)

Another type of dangerous cyber attack is the man-in-the-middle attack. In this attack, a cybercriminal intercepts and alters communications between two sources, with none being the wiser. The attacker essentially “eavesdrops” on the conversation and can modify, read, or inject new information into the communication.

This can happen in various ways, such as using malware to compromise a device and gain access to network traffic. An Israeli start-up lost $1 million in wire transfer due to a man-in-the-middle attack.
